If you haven’t checked out Pinterest yet, you are missing out! Just like old-school scrapbooks, Pinterest is a place to organize images you find interesting or inspiring. You can create customized, themed boards. It is a lot of fun. But once you’ve gotten the basics down, here is how to find more followers!
1. Get The Official Pin It Button: Increase the chances of your pins appearing in search results by installing the Pin It button on your website. The more often pinners add images from your website, the more credibility your site earns — which means your pins have a better chance of appearing in search results.
2. Use Rich Pins: Rich pins add more textual content to your pins, helping them rank better. There are currently five types of rich pins: movie, recipe, article, product and place. When coded correctly on your site, they’ll be pinned with extra information and stand out more on the grid, helping drive clicks.
3. Write Detailed Descriptions on Your Pins: Think about what pinners might be looking for and include these terms in your pin descriptions.
4. Keep Away From Generic Keywords: Pins that include generic, keyword-stuffed descriptions may be demoted in search. Also cut down on the number of hashtags, which may also negatively impact your ranking.
5. Use Helpful Board Names and Descriptions: Create a mix of both specific boards with specific names (e.g. “Autumn Favorites”) and more broad ones (e.g. “Apple Desserts”). And just like with individual pins, be sure to write compelling and targeted descriptions of your boards, too.
6. Check Link Quality: This is a big one: Be sure to check your pins on a regular basis to be sure the links are still working. Pins with spammy and irrelevant links are frequently demoted.
7. Increase Engagement: Grow a following of engaged Pinners that interact with your pins and see them on their home feeds. You can add the Follow button to your site and promote your profile and boards with widgets and email campaigns.
8. Keep it Fresh: I pin daily, but only pin a few pins at a time. Don’t overwhelm your followers!
