As a family of 7, snacks are a must at any time — so pulling some out for surprise guests is no problem. Since we make almost everything from scratch and in bulk to reconcile both thriftiness and health, we have these snacks in our pantry shelves:

Glass Bulk Jar of Organic Popcorn Seeds

This is always our go-to snack. Popcorn is healthy (what you put on it may not be) and very frugal. We dress it up many many ways! The adults like real butter, real salt, cayenne pepper and turmeric powder. It is AMAZING! The kids love homemade powdered sugar frosting drizzled over with a few shakes of cinnamon for a cinnamon roll type of flavor! These are just two of dozens of ways we make this a fun snack.

Snack Basket of Organic Fruit Leather, Craisins and Annie’s Cookies or Cheddar Bunnies

These are for a super quick grab. We also always have veggie chips and veggie sticks, as well as the apple sticks. Everyone, young and old alike loves these healthier chip alternatives.

Full Fridge of Fruits and Veggies and Plain Greek Yogurt

We can whip up a fruit dip like this: plain Greek yogurt, honey or agave to sweetness taste, a drop or few of food grade grapefruit essential oil! It is super yummy and refreshing.

Cracker Made with Millet, Quinoa, Amaranth and Teff

We always try to keep these on hand and then make our homemade dip for crackers and veggies with ingredients we always have on hand in our fridge too! How: equal parts cream cheese and plain Greek yogurt, minced garlic or garlic paste, dried rosemary and dill weed (all to taste). Pull out a serving tray with half crackers, half veggies and this amazing dip and your quick visit by friends will be unforgettable! Just be prepared for many more guests to pop on by.
